This Swine Life: Pig Named Six Seven Granted Clemency by Miami Dade County Leader.
While perhaps not at the identical stature as pardoning holiday birds, but the mayor of Miami-Dade conducted a ceremonial pardon event this week by ceremoniously saving the life of a swine named Six Seven.
Daniella Levine Cava performed the seasonal stunt at the Cuban-themed Latin Cafe 2000 in the center of Miami’s Little Havana neighborhood.
“This animal is guiltless. Clemency is justified for her. She has committed zero crimes,” Levine Cava said in a speech with clear references to the vast quantity of pardons issued since the beginning of a second term in office.
“Except perhaps for eating 6 or 7 apples per day,” Levine Cava continued. “I hope she experiences a lengthy and joyful existence free from concern.”
The event, simultaneously observing and challenging the region’s Hispanic tradition of feasting on pork during the holidays, was created to emulate the annual turkey pardoning at the White House.
The swine, donated by a local firefighter, was christened after the popular vernacular phrase of young people yelling “6-7” – inspired by a rap song lyric – often for no discernable reason. The phrase became so widespread that a major dictionary recently declared “six-seven” its top term for the year.
A Peaceful Retirement
Six Seven the pig is now scheduled to spend its days at a rural sanctuary “distant from barbecues and spits”, according to the event’s official press release.
“The annual pig pardon has become one of our favorite ways to begin the festive period,” said the cafe owner, in a particularly upbeat message.
“It represents the essence of Miami: vibrant, diverse, and rooted in traditions that bring people together. Every time, we are delighted to mark heritage and mercy in a way unique to Miami.”
Participants enjoyed a vegetarian menu of spinach fritters and Cuban coffee as they toasted Six Seven’s big moment.
