The New Animated Series' Introductory Sequence Selected the Wrong Critical Role Song
This latest animated series, the newest animated series by the beloved role-playing group, unveiled an exciting introductory sequence. It showcases the beloved group of outcasts, outcasts, and rogues kicking ass and taking names, while teasing at multiple heart-wrenching personal histories for characters such as Liam O'Brien's wizard Caleb, and another actor's orc warlock, the character Fjord.
Overall, the intro appears stunning. But I couldn't help feeling that something was missing in the music selection.
The intro uses "Welcome to the Continent", a truly stellar song composed by artist the talented musician. It's a track originating from the soundtrack album of the same name, the second one released by the production company's record label their music brand. It's a great nostalgic option, and I suspect that fans of the sequel series will love its inclusion.
But for me, The series' intro doesn't quite capture the hype and excitement that was part of the show's actual-play adventure. "It's Your Turn", written by singer-songwriter the artist, became an immediate hit for me when it was initially unveiled in that year, and it improved further when cast member the performer wrote words to the melody for the series' animated intro in 2018.
Featuring vocals from one actress, another performer, a co-star, as well as Riegel himself, the song was memorable and fun. At the time, I hadn't even watched the follow-up series yet, but it was so infectious that I still saved it on my device. It's a song that knows how to get you pumped before you dive into an installment of fantasy hijinks.
The Mighty Nein's opening with "the new song" fails to hit the right notes for me. It's a grand piece of music, but from what I know of this party, I feel that its tone is somewhat mismatched.
Naturally, the creators has already said that the series will have a few surprises and differences from the actual-play campaign. A tonal change for its opening appears as among these.
The Mighty Nein will be released on the streaming service from Nov. 19. If you can't wait until then, or want a head start to learn about the personas of Critical Role's Campaign 2, the actual play are available on the audio platform and YouTube.
