The beloved police drama AC-12 is officially returning for its seventh season, confirmed by the broadcaster.

A brand new six-part season written by the show's creator will begin filming in Belfast this spring, according to the production team.

The actress shared her enthusiasm about the return, saying she was "thrilled" about the show's renewal. Adrian Dunbar remarked, "How wonderful it is to know that the Three Amigos will be reuniting together soon."

The last series wrapped up in recent years with a finale that attracted over 17 million viewers. Rumors about a new season have been circulating for some time, but confirmation only came this week.

New Challenges for The Team

The seventh season begins with AC-12 having been disbanded and renamed as the new police oversight body, as revealed by production details.

Steve Arnott, Vicky McClure's role, and Adrian Dunbar's part continue working to combat corruption within the law enforcement.

The team's mission "faces unprecedented challenges", and in this climate, these officers will take on their "most delicate case to date."

New Character and Complex Case

An additional officer, Det Insp Dominic Gough, described as a charismatic officer known for takedowns of criminal networks, faces allegations of misusing his authority to become a sexual predator.

However, this investigation might serve as a deliberate distraction from a bigger threat still operating in the background, plot details suggested.

In a statement, Jed Mercurio said: "Everyone involved are deeply thankful to the show's fans."

"It's an honor to have had countless followers track the developments of the unit over six previous seasons and we are thrilled to be returning for a new installment."

Mercurio continued: "Misconduct in this country is supposed to have ended while Line of Duty was not airing, so I've been compelled to use my creativity."

Actor Responses

The Scottish actor called being part of the series as "a job of a lifetime".

"Beyond the show's success but the people I've worked with I now call some of my closest friends."

"I'm excited to pull the waistcoat on again and get the team back together," he said.

Vicky McClure stated: "Obviously I'm so excited the show is back! Eager to work with Jed, Martin and Adrian again. The city, we'll be there shortly!"

Adrian Dunbar commented: "While anticipating the AC-12 days of Christmas, how exciting it is to know that the Three Amigos will be working together soon."

"Delighted with the announcement and looking forward to those unexpected plot developments."

Show History

Line of Duty premiered in 2012 and evolved into a highly successful TV dramas of the past ten years, featuring guest stars such as Stephen Graham.

The BBC has not yet announced exactly the new season will hit screens.

The conclusion of season six brought the extended plot about the hunt for kingpin known as "H" to a conclusion, and the creative team said at the time there were no intentions for additional seasons.

Nevertheless, the corporation confirmed on Tuesday that a seventh series is now in development.
