The Details Known Concerning the Fatalities of the Bondi Shooting
A minimum of 16 people lost their lives and over 40 were wounded when gunmen fired on a Hanukah celebration at Bondi Beach, an attack Australian police have called a terrorist attack.
As of the newest reports, officials have announced the number of fatalities stands at 16, including one of the alleged attackers. Moreover, 42 wounded individuals were admitted to hospital.
The deceased are yet to be publicly named, but police believe their ages are between 10 and 87 years old.

Eli Schlanger
London-born rabbi Eli Schlanger, 41, was the first victim to be named.
Reportedly a father-of-five, he worked as the associate rabbi at Chabad of Bondi. Family members and acquaintances remembered him as “vivacious, energetic, full of life and a very warm outgoing person who was dedicated to assisting others”.
“How can a happy rabbi who went to a beach to share joy and positivity, to make the world a better place, meet his end in this way?” a relative asked.
Schlanger and his wife celebrated the arrival of their newest son in October.
Alexander Kleytman
Alexander Kleytman was also among those killed, according to his wife.
She described the events before the shooting, saying they had been standing together when the shooting began. “He pushed his body up because he wanted to stay near me,” she said.
The pair were both Holocaust survivors, having faced immense hardship in their childhood. They had subsequently moved to Australia from Eastern Europe.
Dan Elkayam
The French foreign ministry have confirmed that French man Dan Elkayam is among the victims.
Publicly, the Foreign Minister expressed that France mourned with his family, the Jewish community, and the Australian people.
“This cowardly attack is a new, tragic manifestation of a disgusting rise of antisemitic hatred that we must eradicate,” the statement continued.
One Child
A 10-year-old girl who was rushed to the Sydney Children’s Hospital succumbed to her injuries, authorities stated.
One Israeli Citizen
An Israeli citizen was among those killed in the incident, according to reports citing the Israeli foreign ministry.
Those Injured
Of the 42 people transported to hospitals, many are still under care, with several in critical condition. Those hurt comprise two officers who responded to the attack.
A casualty is a bystander who rushed to the scene to tackle one of the attackers. Called a local hero, he sustained bullet wounds but is recovering well in hospital.
Arsen Ostrovsky
One of those wounded is Arsen Ostrovsky, a human rights lawyer. Sources state he was injured and underwent treatment in hospital.
In a message, he described the incident as an “horrific scene,” but also praised the actions of those who came to assist. He stated he believed it was a “miracle” he was alive.
Evan Zlatkis
Evan Zlatkis, a community director, was also injured in the shooting. He described he listened to “dozens and dozens” of gunshots.
“Initially, I believed it was rubber bullets, but it penetrated my own skin and into my leg,” he explained. “I sustained a gunshot wound. I received first aid. I’m ok.”
