Russell Wilson Fires Back at Ex-Mentor Sean Payton Regarding Quarterback Remarks
New York Giants signal-caller Russell Wilson did not hold back on online platforms this Tuesday, responding to recent comments from his ex-mentor Sean Payton.
"Tasteless... but not shocked...," Wilson declared via social media. "Had no idea you're still bounty hunting 15+ years later through the press."
Wilson's response directly referenced the notorious Bounty Gate issue from 2009 to 2011, when Payton led the Saints.
During that period, the league determined that the Saints had incentivized players for making aggressive tackles on rival teams. Consequently, Payton received a suspension from the league for a full year.
What Sparked the Recent Dispute
Wilson's response came after Payton made remarks following the Broncos' historic 33-32 win over the Giants. Payton remarked that the team had "found a little spark" with their new QB, who has replaced Wilson as the starting quarterback.
Moreover, Payton hinted that he had informed team owner John Mara that he would prefer playing against Wilson instead of Dart.
"I was talking to John Mara not too long ago and I said, 'We hoped that change would've happened well after our game,'" the coach stated.
