Los Angeles Explodes in Celebration as Los Angeles Dodgers Secure Back-to-Back World Series Championship
The City of Angels experienced citywide celebrations after the Dodgers won a thrilling seven-match World Series championship. Supporters across the globe joined Angelenos in celebration, marking the initial time in 25 years that a team has achieved back-to-back championships.
Celebration Parade Draws Enormous Crowds
Local celebrations featured a procession through the city center on Monday morning, a reserved-seating event at the team's home stadium, and impromptu gatherings across the city.
Online footage show countless of Angelenos packing city center avenues, many displaying homemade signs and team flags. The squad was seen riding high on a open-top bus through the masses, hoisting the Commissioner’s trophy proudly.
“I’m already thinking about the next championship we’re going to do this,” the star player stated through an interpreter.
The procession path ended at Dodger Stadium, where the players emerged to Kendrick Lamar’s “Not Like Us,” with the renowned DJ spinning music and the artist cruising a Pacific blue classic car around the field.
Pre-Parade Festivities and Athlete Responses
Festivities began prior to the procession, with supporters setting off fireworks in the streets of the city center on the previous evening.
The World Series MVP, named the MVP of the championship, spoke plainly about the victory.
“Losing is not an option,” he said. “I adore this team. This city means everything to me.”
Varied Responses and Community Spirit
However, Mark Walter was met with a less warm welcome at the rally. Video footage from the gathering appear to show him taking the stage to a combination of cheers and boos, with jeers punctuating his address.
The championship acted as a bright spot in what has been a trying year for the city. An approximate 225,000 people showed up to the championship parade last year, and according to team member Freddie Freeman, fans this year demonstrated equal or greater enthusiasm.
“I feel like it’s almost double from last year,” he said. “These fans are crazy. It’s truly amazing to be a part of this.”
