The award-nominated actor Diane Ladd, a Hollywood veteran passed away at the age of 89.

This actress, whose credits featured Chinatown, passed away at home in California’s Ojai. This announcement was shared through a message from her offspring, award-winning actress Laura Dern, her daughter.

Laura Dern, who starred with her mother in a number of films including Wild at Heart, referred to her as “my incredible hero as well as my precious gift being my mom”, stating that she was present as she died.

“She was the most wonderful grandmother, mother, daughter, star, artist and empathetic spirit that seemed almost dreamlike,” she expressed. “We were lucky to have her. She is flying with her angels now.”

Early Career and Breakthrough

Ladd’s early career saw supporting roles on television series including The Fugitive and that decade featured her performing next to actor Jack Nicholson in the film Chinatown.

During that year, the year 1974, she appeared alongside Ellen Burstyn in Martin Scorsese’s acclaimed comedy drama Alice Doesn’t Live Here Anymore. Her acting landed Ladd her initial Oscar nod in the supporting actress category.

1980s and Beyond

During the eighties, she was seen in crime thriller Black Widow, a suspense story plus humorous film National Lampoon’s holiday comedy and appeared on Alice, a television series inspired by her earlier movie.

In the following decade, she earned a further supporting actress nomination for her role in the David Lynch film Wild at Heart in which she portrayed the parent of her actual daughter Laura Dern’s role.
