Arne Slot Insists He Is Secure and Has The Club's Support After PSV Humiliation
Arne Slot admitted that it's expected for doubts to be asked about his position after another heavy defeat versus the Dutch champions.
The Reds endured their ninth loss in twelve matches, marking the team's poorest streak after being demoted in 1953-54.
They were dominated by the Dutch league champions on a punishing night at their home ground.
“I'm confident, things are alright, I've received plenty of backing from management,” Slot stated.
“It's important to change things and secure a win naturally but when you're in a managerial role and not doing well then it is normal that doubts arise.”
He added, “I am OK with my role. This isn't the first time I've found myself in a difficult position but it is about time that we improved our results.”
Talks with The Board
Upon being questioned to elaborate on his dialogues with the club's leadership, Slot explained:
“We talk a lot. They are supportive for the squad and for me and we discuss these matters but they don't phone me all the time of the day to say they back me.”
He further stated, “In the normal conversations we have I sense the belief. However I've not talked to them after this match so far so it remains to be seen.”
Recurring Problems and Player Reaction
Slot expressed regret over known shortcomings from his Liverpool side in their Champions League defeat, namely wasted chances and leaking goals.
Meanwhile, midfielder Curtis Jones was more direct in his view of the team's situation.
“I don’t have the solutions. Honestly, I do not. I'm telling that to everybody,” the midfielder said.
“It's simply unacceptable. I don’t even need to wait to think about it. I’m past being angry inside. I’m at the point currently where I just don’t have the vocabulary.”
He continued, “It's tough because I play for the team I support. I’m a fan, and I’ve seen Liverpool all my life.”
“For many years, I've not seen a Liverpool team enduring a spell like this with performances this poor.”
He concluded, “But we continue to wear the crest on our shirts. And as long as it is gone, we'll continue to compete.”
“We’re going to try to bring this squad return to where it needs to be, demonstrate to all again the values of this club and why people call it the best team in the planet.”
“At this moment, things are bad and it needs to change.”
